England’s Red Roses responded to shock back-to-back defeats in Canada with a crushing 55-12 WXV Global Series victory over the USA in New Jersey, to return to winning ways.
John Mitchell’s side entered the contest off the back of losing two Tests in a row for the first time in a decade, and having lost their 41-Test, four-year unbeaten run in Toronto.
A competitive first half against the USA saw 10 points in it at half-time, but the second half proved largely one-way traffic as England’s superiority showed.
In all, the Red Roses scored nine tries through wing Claudia Moloney-MacDonald (four), centre Meg Jones, wing Mia Venner, replacement hooker Bryony Field and back-rows Maddie Feaunati and Sadia Kabeya.
The USA scored two tries through loosehead prop Hope Rogers and replacement back Kate Zackary, but shipped three second-half tries in nine minutes with prop Mona Tupou in the sin-bin due to repeat scrum penalties.
