2.00 Bath – Promising Etienne returns following Super Sprint fourth
Promising Etienne returns following Super Sprint fourth in the EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes.
Richard Spencer-trained Etienne was touched off by a short head on debut before improving further when finishing fourth in the Weatherbys Super Sprint.
He shaped best that day, conceding first run and running on to finish with the highest finishing speed of the front four.
The winner, Angel’s Lane has since bolted up to win a good edition of the St Hugh’s Stakes, and the level of form that Etienne brings to the race, looks a class apart from his rivals.
He contains Group One and Group Two entries this autumn, and the slight step up in trip should see him to best effect, and extremely tough to beat.
Tree Wizard and Anna Belardo contain one piece of form each which could see them run creditably against Etienne, but both need to bounce back to their best if they’re to threaten Richard Spencer’s runner.
5.02 Bath – Quebella headlines trappy fillies’ handicap
Quebella headlines a trappy contest in the British EBF Fillies’ Handicap.
Quebella has strung together two creditable third-placed finishes since moving to Owen Burrows.
She was very well backed last time out at Chester but a wide trip and drop in trip both did not see her to best effect. Back up a furlong and a half should suit, and she should go well.
Pierian looked promising when winning by nine lengths at Yarmouth in May, but has since disappointed. She was put into listed company before a handicap at Glorious Goodwood, so she is definitely thought better of, and she can prove competitive if progressing from her earlier season efforts.
The in-form duo, Mythical Bird and Aravalli both scored last time out, with the latter succeeding in four of her last five starts.
They should both go well in a wide-open fillies’ handicap.
2.45 Newcastle – Intriguing 3yo Yordan bids to back up facile success
Intriguing three-yearold Yordan bids to back up facile success in the EBF Novice Stakes.
Yordan was purchased for 160,000gns as a yearling in October 2024, but had to wait until July 2026 to make his belated debut. He has made a promising start at three, finishing a close second on debut, before winning by nearly three lengths, going away when dropped to six furlongs last month at Southwell.
Harry Vigors has been booked to ride which offsets the winning penalty he shoulders, and with a clear class edge on paper, he could take all the beating when attempting to make it two wins from three.
Ennoble was previously trained by Joseph O’Brien and contains solid two-year-old form. However, Antony Brittain would need to revitalise this horse as it seems like he may not have trained on.
Brash has held a consistent level of form to date and can again run creditably; however, he is much more exposed and would need to make a miraculous improvement to even threaten Yordan.
