“Derek McInnes is doing the best that he possibly can with what’s at his disposal to try and get results.”
Former Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday has defended the new Gers manager amid his winless start at Ibrox, accusing the club’s hierarchy of “gross mismanagement”.
The pressure has increased on McInnes and his players after they extended their winless run to four games, crashing out of the Europa League to Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok.

But Halliday, who spent five seasons at Ibrox, does not think the blame lies with the manager.
“He’s trying to find a formula, he’s trying to find a solution, he’s trying to find players that he trusts. Whether that’s personnel or whether that’s shape and he’s really scratching the surface,” he told Sky Sports News.
“You look at the balance of the squad and there’s a real lack of pace, a real lack of creativity, no one that can dictate the tempo of a game.
“Derek McInnes is doing the best that he possibly can with what’s at his disposal to try and get results. At this moment in time, he’s not found that solution.”
Rangers have made nine new signings this summer, while a deal for £6.5m for PSV winger Couhaib Driouech was called off after an injury was picked up during his medical.

While fans have raised concerns about player recruitment, chairman Andrew Cavenagh defended the work in that department at a shareholder Q&A, adding he believes the squad is better than it was 12 months ago.
But despite that, Halliday believes the issues are continuing to come from the top.
“A gross level of mismanagement,” he added when asked about the club’s incoming players.
“If you’ve signed 27 players in the space of 12 months, then you’ve got so many decisions wrong.
“It is quite incredible that we’ve allowed this to take place. Only one left-back in the door, three centre-halves, only two wingers, a whole host of central-midfield players that all kind of fit the same profile.
“So they’re right in saying they still need more players, but it has to be players that are an immediate upgrade on what they currently have, or it’s obviously going to be a long season.
“They need an upgrade, and I think it’s hard to say they’ve done that.”
