Tuchel: Both Spurs goals cannot stand

-

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel believes both of Tottenham’s goals in their dramatic 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge should have been disallowed.

Tuchel and Spurs counterpart Antonio Conte were both dismissed after the final whistle following their second touchline spat of the afternoon.

Although Tuchel played down those confrontations, the Chelsea head coach was angry with the award of both of Tottenham’s goals.

“I have to say both [Spurs] goals cannot stand. It’s only one team that deserved to win and that was us. I’m sorry for my team they don’t get what they deserve,” said Tuchel.

“It was a clear foul on Kai Havertz in the build-up [to Tottenham’s first goal], a clear foul. We had one tactical foul from [Reece] James which got a yellow. I don’t know how many tactical fouls Hojbjerg and Bentancur did today. The situation went on and on, and it was a clear offside on Richarlison. He is in line of the shot. He even goes to the ball, so Mendy can’t see the ball. They check it, it is a clear offside.”

An incredulous Tuchel also highlighted an incident – investigated but not punished by VAR – immediately before Tottenham’s injury-time equaliser in which Cristian Romero appeared to pull Marc Cucurella to the ground by his hair.

“And when can you pull hair on the football field? When is that? So we check and nothing happens? It’s ridiculous.”

Hojbjerg’s leveller for Tottenham sparks a touchline row between Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte.

On his second bust-up with Conte, Tuchel added: “When you shake hands I thought we look into each other’s eyes but we had a different opinion so it was emotional,” he said.

“He was happy when they equalised and it got a bit heated but nothing big. We both got a red card? It was not necessary. But a lot of things were not necessary. Another poor decision from the referee today.”
