‘We win major trophies here’: Palmer signs new Chelsea contract

-

Cole Palmer has signed a contract extension with Chelsea.

The star forward has agreed a one-year extension on his previous deal with improved terms, committing him to the club until 2034.

“Chelsea means a lot to me and I think the club is going in the right direction, so I’m delighted to sign and I’m obviously very happy,’ Palmer said.

“Speaking to the owners, to the sporting directors and obviously the manager, they gave me a lot of confidence so it was only right to sign.

“Speaking to players as well, everyone has the same ambitions. I feel like we win major trophies here consistently and I want to be a part of that and play a big role in it too.”

He has won the Conference League and Club World Cup with the Blues since joining from Man City in 2023.

‘This could be a defining period for Chelsea’

Analysis from Sky Sports News’ James Savundra…

Palmer only joined Chelsea in 2023 but has already signed two separate extensions since moving from Manchester City.

He was already tied to the club until 2033. However, the improved terms further emphasise his importance to the Chelsea project.

This is part of a clear drive from the club in 2026 to reward the core members of the squad and ward off suitors.

Reece James, Moises Caicedo, Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto have committed their peak years to the club. This is alongside the marquee signing of Morgan Rogers.

It is expected that more renewals could be confirmed in the coming months.

Chelsea’s work behind the scenes in contract renewals and player trading has to be admired following a tumultuous four years since the takeover.

However, it is imperative that this is soon reflected on the pitch. After a thrilling start to the Xabi Alonso era, familiar and longstanding issues have reared their head.

With key players back fit, this could be a defining period in Chelsea’s season as they map their way back to the top.

Chelsea podcast special

Chelsea’s defence – which has conceded more goals than any other side so far – and their midfield – struggling to control games without injury-hit Moises Caicedo – were two areas in the spotlight.

Ahead of Chelsea’s return to action against Bournemouth – and with Everton (a), Spurs (h), Liverpool in the Carabao Cup (a), Man Utd (h), and Sunderland (a) before the next international break – Sky Sports News reporter James Savundra outlined the issues. And how Alonso could solve them…
